Face-to-face workshops enrich the learning experience in an almost magical way. I am pleased to collaborate with teaching studios, guilds and craft organizations to offer in-person group classes on a wide range of topics.

The following workshop dates are confirmed for 2024.

Denver Jewelry Studio. Light & Shadow, Etching & Keum Boo on Steel. April 20–23. This four-day workshop is an exploration in creating steel jewelry, with an emphasis on two techniques: electro-etching and Keum Boo. Whether you have experience working with steel or are new to this fabulous metal, this workshop will provide the skills you need to create beautiful etched steel jewelry with the glow of gold using the Keum Boo process. In addition, you will learn how to create your own etched rolling mill pattern plates. Littleton, CO

Silver Peak Studio. Demo: Painting with Powdered Metals. April 24, 9:30-11:00 a.m. This pop-up demonstration will feature an exciting new technique—Painting with Powdered Metals on steel. Non-ferrous powdered metals—gold, silver, bronzes and brasses—fuse beautifully to mild steel. Using this new painting-with-powdered-metals technique, multiple metals can be fused concurrently and layered in a painterly fashion to achieve dramatic effects. The many commercial sources of powdered metals will be covered during the demo, as well as the process for grinding gold and other metals that are not available for purchase. In addition, various methods for fusing the layers of powdered metals will be demonstrated. Examples of finished work with this new technique will be shared.

Adams Forge. Take It Up a Notch: Etching and Keum Boo on Forged Steel. June 22-23. This two-day class is designed for metalsmiths of all types who want to stretch beyond their current comfort zones by adding dimension and drama to their work through etching and Keum Boo. Whether you are a blacksmith, bladesmith or jeweler, you will learn how to add interest and eye-appeal to your work through two techniques: electro-etching steel to create raised relief patterns that add visual interest to your work and Keum Boo to add bit of bling by bonding fine gold and silver foil to the surface.

Silvera Jewelry School. Wanna Mesh Around? Working with Woven Steel Mesh: Forming, Fusing and Enameling Steel Mesh. Aug. 23-25. In this three-day workshop, you will learn how to add exciting dimension to your jewelry creations with woven steel mesh, which has characteristics of both fabric and metal sheet. The workshop will cover how to work with mesh including forming, soldering, micro welding and finishing it. In addition, you will learn how to fuse gold and other non-ferrous metals to the mesh and how to apply liquid form enamels to mesh to create spontaneous, colorful forms. Berkeley, CA.
